Imperial Guard vs. Russian Army Empty
PostSubject: Imperial Guard vs. Russian Army   Imperial Guard vs. Russian Army EmptyThu Jul 02, 2009 4:05 pm

Okay I was looking at some of the models for the Imperial Guard, like any Commissar model, I was wondering where I heard the word "Commissar" from. Commissar is actually "The voenkom (Russian: военком), translated as military comissar, is the head of a military commissariat - a regional office that drafts men for military service, executes plans for military mobilization, and maintains records on military reserves." (Wikipedia, Commissar Search, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commissar) Now correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this the same thing as the Imperial Guard Commissar? During World War II the Commissar did the same exact thing as the Imperial Guard (see The Imperial Munitorum Manual and The Imperial Infantryman's Uplifting Primer).

Also take a look at the Imperial Guard Vostroyan Troop choice. Their uniforms are nearly identical to what the Russian's winter guard wore back in World War II. Just thought I point out a little history.

It does make you think though. Did Communism take control in the 40k universe?

Well the Imperial guard are actually based off of multiple Real life armies. Its stated that they wanted to take elements from multiple different Time Frames AND armies to make imperial guard. The Vostroyans are actually based off of Russian Cossacks, WW1 Germans, and Prussians, which is kind of funny that they took all the elements of different (very different) armies and pushed them into a unique (sort of) type of army. Look at the Death Korps, they are a WW1 French army and a WW2 German army hybrid.

Kinda freaky if you think about it. If (and its a pretty big if) the nations unite under one government that's probably what would happen.
