This list is specifically made to totally own Tyranid armies, and most ork armies. It's the standard sit-n'-shoot scenario, though I do have some support squads. My tactic is to stay generally in the center of my deploy zone, keeping a good distance away from the sides of the board so as to make it difficult for 'stealers to ambush me. The Captain and the sternguard motor around my force, quickly deploying in areas with large concentrations of nids, and shoot the crap out of them, hence the combi-flamers. Then my command squad assaults whats left.
The sternguard and the Ironclad are also my only means of killing Nid'zillas, but that's ok due to the fact that a zilla list will have just as much trouble as a hoard list if they fight me. Abundance of firepower makes strong armor a little useless.
The thunderfire cannons are more of a crowd control group, than real heavy hitters (unless shooting at 'zillas) they make it difficult for the nids to rush me seeing as the bug's will be forced to take a difficult terrain test whenever I shoot at them. True it may not kill them, but that's not the point of slowing them down.

My only major risk is losing my sternguard to early in the game, or my thunderfire cannons. Also if they go heavy 'stealer then I'll be in very big trouble, but otherthan that I can take on almost any nid list.

I'm not sure how well this would fare agaisnt orks though...

The standard ork horde list also contains Lootas, a long range anti-light-tank unit that should eliminate your razorbacks / rhino early.

I always love thunderfire cannons and think if used effectively they can more than pay for themselves. Using the 60" range to stay out of reach of the lootas would be required, or they'll kill the cannon.

Ironclads are great against orks due to their likely inability to do too much damage with shooting, and higher than normal difficulty killing it in combat. However, by only having a small number of other pieces of armor, the Lootas, or any deffkoptas (or rocket having units) could/would focus on it and eliminate its threat early.

Going mostly on foot provides you with a higher amount of turns in which to shoot at the incoming horde, but also reduces your mobility and will likely ensure that your opponent will be the one getting the charge when the time comes for combat.

I think the list would do rather well against Tyranid hordes, as they typically lack more than 3-4 primary target Monstrous Creatures and have a much more difficult time dealing with any amount of armor, and should never reach the cannons.

My concern is that the only primary close combat squad in the army is the command squad, which while quite deadly in combat, can be easily overwhelmed by the volume of attacks the horde army brings. Against a horde, close combat is inevitable, and bringing 2-3 strong, full size, close combat centric units should greatly assist in winning any combats your opponent forces on you.

Yes that is a problem... but I can't really make any dedicated cqc squads without reducing my overall firepower. Really the main idea it go kill-hammer with this list, pick a target and shoot at it until it's dead, then move on to the next one. That's pretty much the only way I can compensate for the lack of cqc ability, by killing or significantly weakening the enemy troops before they can assault me.
Then once they assault me I rely on the durability of my marines to win out in the end. Hopefully the hoards won't have the numbers to effectively overwhelm me.
I won't throw the Command squad into the hoard as soon as they come within assault range, unless I'm desperate and need to make a rhino/razorback wall, in which case my shooting was horrible and my marines should kill themselves. The Sternguard are going to be shooting into the orks as soon as possible certainly, but I'm not going to rush out with them, especially if the Nids/orks are using alot of heavy weapons, bugs especially seeing as alot of nid players have been using warriors alot. For good reason, I must admit.
One of the only ways an ork will really screw up this army is by including zagstrukk in his force, which is likely seeing as he's one of the only ways ork players can kill artillary units early on in the game. I am a little disconcerted by the lack of range I have over the ork lootas, I don't want to give the orks ground, yet at the same time I cant let them take pot-shots at my squads.
Hmm... What is good is the fact that a shokk attack gun sitting by himself will die very quickly thanks to my Iron clad. But that's only if he's going solo....
*Chuckles*
My intention was to kill hoard armies, particularly 'Nids, and amusingly I did to good of a job. It's almost solely based for fighting the bugs.

I've forgotten, but are synapse creatures also immune to instant death if they're near another synaps creature?

I'll also draw up a picture of what I'm going to do.
